Portrait
Statement of intent
For this project my theme is portrait street photography. I have chosen to study this because it will help develop my understanding of street photography, I find interest in this type of theme. At the end of this project I will chose my best photographs and before putting it in the gallery I will make it detailed and clear as possible. For my initial research I will start by looking into a wide range of street portrait photography and differentiate between them. The first photographer I will be looking at is Saul Leiter because he took stunning photos of New York.Saul Lieter was an American photgrapher born in Penslayvina, his work contributed to school of photography in New York . The reason I'm looking at his work is to gain inspiration and motivation before I take my photos and there is not a lot of colour which makes his work less complicated and give a sense of urbanization,Also Leiter used many strategies to enhance strong colours within the image . His image symbolizes what street portrait photography really is. His images are taken at eye-level at different viewpoints.
My initial thoughts on street portrait photography was a basic idea of just taking shoots in the most urban area of
the city. However as I dug more in depth into the topic of street photography, it has helped me understand that street photography comes into different types of styles and not just urban areas. The project of street portrait photograph makes me think of style and fashion and cool backgrounds. Once I have been able to have a suitable amount of photos , I want it to link to a photographers picture. This shows that I have thought a lot on what photos I want to achieve. There are many street photographers but my personal favourite is Saul Leiter. I am looking forward to implementing black and coloured photos as I really have no personal preference between them.
His photos has got me very interested because he has took photos in awkward angles despite the photo having a deep meaning behind it.It really makes you involved in his photos. I aspire photos like his from mine due to his pictures being very aesthetic. I would definitely hope my work would be similar to Saul Leiter. After have captured the pieces of my work and before I add them to my portfolio I would really like to further enhance these pieces by using different photo editing software's to fully express my pieces of work. I aim to show a range of techniques in my work, overall having a more confident approach to my work. By the end of this project I will write up an evaluation to sum up all of my work this year. I will also improve by transferring my EBIS into my strengths by the end of the year.
